In 1999, frustrated by traditional gutter guards that just wouldn’t work, Alex Higginbotham set out to find a better way. He realized that completely enclosing a gutter with a fine filter was the only way to keep out all the debris. But he also knew that roof oils would eventually cause the screen to waterproof. He needed a way to force water through the screen quickly, so that it would cleanse itself of roof oils. Inspiration came when he realized that touching the underside of the filter would suck the water through, just like touching the underside of a tent in the rain causes the water to flow down your finger.
